چکیده

A method for deriving optic ow, using robust statistics, is derived and applied to standard test image sequences. We compare the performance of our approach against the best results derived from competing methods. The method out-performs all published methods in terms of accuracy. The method is also cheaper to implement than most of the other methods. One of the key features in the success of this method, is that we use Least Median of Squares, which is known to be robust to outliers. However, the Least Median of Squares is known to be computationally expensive to compute. We manage to keep the computational cost very low, whilst still retaining excellent performance, by using an approximate solution to the Least Median of Squares only in a rst stage that detects outliers. The approximate solution is fast and adequately robust, as our extensive experiments demonstrate. The essential features of our method should be applicable in the solution of a wide range of other problems: essentially, wherever one solves an over-determined set of linear equations.

A New Approach for Real Time Motion Estimation Using Robust Statistics and Mpeg Domain Applied to Mosaic Images Construction

Dominant motion estimation in video sequence is a task that must be often be solved in Computer Vision problems but involves a high computational cost due to the overwhelming amount of data to be treated when working in image domain. In this paper we introduce a novel technique to perform motion analysis in video sequences taking advantage of the motion information of MPEG streams and its struc...

New Robust Global Motion Estimation Approach Used in MPEG-4

This paper presents a new robust global motion estimation method based on pre-analysis of the video content. The novel idea in the proposed method, compared to classical robust statistics-based estimation methods, is to classify the video sequences into 3 classes based on the analysis of scene content before motion estimation. Different motion models and estimation methods are applied to differ...

Causal Camera Motion Estimation by Condensation and Robust Statistics Distance Measures

The problem of Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM) originally arose from the robotics community and is closely related to the problems of camera motion estimation and structure recovery in computer vision. Recent work in the vision community addressed the SLAM problem using either active stereo or a single passive camera. The precision of camera based SLAM was tested in indoor static e...

Robust Motion Estimation Using Chrominance Information in Color Image Sequences

This paper describes a method for incorporating the chromin-ance information when estimating motion in a colour image sequence. It is based on a Maximum-Likelihood (ML) formulation of the motion estimation problem which assumes homogeneous additive Gaussian noise in each colour component, with known inter-eld correlation statistics. It deenes a noise-decorrelating colour space transform which p...

Estimation of Complex Multimodal Motion: An Approach based on Robust Statistics and Hough Transform

An application of Robust Statistics in a Hough Transform based motion estimation approach is presented. The algorithm is developed and experiments are performed, proving its superior performance in terms of estimate accuracy, convergence, robustness and better segmentation. Comparative results with standard methods are also included.
